Summary of 2018

21 December 2018

This year, the main activities were focused on ensuring the sustainability of the ecological effect achieved under the LIFE 12 NAT / PL / 000031 project “Comprehensive protection of non-forest natural habitats in military areas in the area of Natura 2000 – the Błędowska Desert”, completed at the end of 2017.

Every effort has been made to maintain sandy grassland habitats, prevent eutrophication of the substrate, maintain sand volatility in deflation fields, and cleanliness in the project area.

From June to the end of October, work on cleaning the mugwort soil in deflation fields with a subsoiler and sandcleaner continued. The removal of undesirable vegetation in the area of well-preserved sandy grasslands and naturally valuable regions of the northern part of the Błędowska Desert was commissioned. Environmental monitoring was also carried out in the area under active protection to assess the status of natural habitats.

Also, we regularly carried out educational and promotional activities of the project. We participated in numerous briefings and training. We took part in the LIFE open days organized in April by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, where we actively participated in promoting the project.

At the end of September, we were visited by Ms. Monitor Expert, a representative of the European Commission, to assess the condition of the project’s effect.

Besides, we supported and cooperated with other projects. On November 15-16, we took part in a meeting devoted to the exchange of experience between so-called projects Platform Meeting organized by the Team of Świętokrzyskie and Nadnidziański Landscape Parks in Kielce.

To sum up, the current year was hectic, and all planned activities related to maintaining the effects of the project were completed in 100%. We hope that next year will also be successful.
